BSU has a rich tradition of breaking barriers and setting trends for women's athletics, with the BOLD move of launching varsity women's athletics in 1969...three years before Title IX required it.
LEADING THE WAY
The pioneers of BSU women's athletics BOLDLY led the way by developing varsity teams and forming the Minn-Kota Conference, one of the first women's athletics conferences in the NATION.
A VISION REALIZED
Over the past 50 years, BSU women’s athletics has grown to nine programs and there are nearly 200 women carrying on the proud tradition that started with the BOLD idea that women can and should have the opportunity to compete.
Bemidji State University is celebrating the 50th anniversary of women’s athletics with a fundraising effort specifically for the women’s programs. This effort – the first for women’s athletics – has a goal of $500,000 between 2019 (the 50th anniversary of women’s athletics at BSU) and 2022 (the 50th anniversary of Title IX).
Gifts to the BE BOLD: Women's Athletics Fund will support the following areas:
- Scholarships for female athletes
- Facility enhancements to benefit female athletes
