Campus sweethearts

I was engaged to someone else and was to be getting married in four short months when I met Mike while out with friends at Jack’s Bar in Wilton. We married in August 1987!

My mom and dad, Don and Pat Campbell, met at BSU in the mid-50's. Dad graduated from BSC in 1956. They were married for 43 years until mom died in 2000. Dad is 88 years old now.

Bob and I met at BSC in 1971, married in 1972, celebrated 50 years and are heading toward year 52. Quite a ride!

My love and I didn't meet at BSU, but it was because our mothers worked together in Bemidji State's Education department that we met in 2002. Thanks to Maggie Carlson and Kathleen Sonsteng and their conversations in the hallways of Bensen Hall, Joseph Furuseth and I met, fell in love, became BSU alumni, and have been together for nearly 22 years! 

I was casually dating Susan Hobson Knudsen while she was in college there at BSU in the late 70's. I took this pic of her in her dorm room in 1977. Her grandfather was CV Hobson, yes the one the Union Hall is named after. We got married in 1979 and will celebrate 45 years this fall, with her putting up with me.

 Sue's dad and his 2 brothers all graduated from BSU. One of our daughters Kelli Schmitz graduated from BSU as did her hubby Jason Schmitz. My brother Karl Knudsen also graduated from BSU, so the Beaver blood runs deep in our clan.

Mark Morrissey and I fell for each other on a Bemidji State Outdoor Program Center trip in 1989. We said “I DO” in 1995. Best friends forever!
