Jessica Strom

Jessica Strom, a 2009 Bemidji State University graduate, recently earned the prestigious Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching. This national recognition highlights her 21-year career as a dedicated math teacher at Win-E-Mac School in Erskine, where she fosters a student-centered classroom focused on curiosity and engagement. Strom is known for her creative teaching methods, including hands-on activities like “Barbie Bungee” and “Catapulting Gummi Bears” to apply mathematical concepts. Beyond the classroom, she leads family math nights and explores the cultural connections to mathematics. A leader in her field, Strom serves as the high school vice president for the Minnesota Council of Teachers of Mathematics and provides professional development for educators statewide. She holds a master’s degree in mathematics from Bemidji State University.
