Just how tall is Tamarack Hall? We crunched the numbers, and the results are in

Last week, we posed a question that’s probably never been asked before: How many Buckys tall is Tamarack Hall?

Bemidji State University’s largest residence hall proudly stands as the tallest building in Beltrami County, but using our mascot to gauge its height created a unit of measurement that one could only find at BSU.

The final calculation: 22.8333 Buckys.

Tamarack Hall stands 137 feet tall from the basement slab to the top of the penthouse. Assuming Bucky is an even six feet tall (though he’s never sat still quite long enough for an official measurement), you’d need almost 23 of him to reach the top of Tam.

We asked our alumni and friends to submit their best guess for a chance to win a Beaver Hockey jersey, and over 500 gave it a shot. Matthew Griggs, a 2019 alum, came the closest with his submission of 22.8, which edged out the next closest guess by 0.0003. Yes, that’s three ten-thousandth Buckys (or 0.02 inches for those less nuanced with Bucky as a standard unit of measurement).

And for those keeping track at home, that means the moon is about 9 million Tamarack Halls away from earth… or 210 million Buckys.
