The Bemidji State University Alumni & Foundation is proud to announce the promotion of Lisa Hofstad to the position of Associate Vice President of University Advancement, effective Jan. 12, 2026.
Hofstad has served the foundation for over 17 years, most recently as the director of advancement operations, and she stands as its longest-tenured employee. As a cornerstone of the BSUAF for nearly two decades, Hofstad’s elevation to this executive leadership role marks a pivotal moment in the organization’s trajectory.
Executive director Allyssa “A.J.” Joseph calls her the “glue” of the Alumni & Foundation because of her unparalleled level of institutional knowledge and a deep-seated commitment to the success of Bemidji State University.
“Lisa is quite simply the engine of this organization,” Joseph said. “Her ability to bridge our historical legacy with our future ambitions allowed us to launch only the second fundraising campaign in our organization’s history. This role ensures she will continue to lead us not just through this campaign, but well into the next.”
“I am excited to step into this strategic leadership role, leveraging the momentum of the For the North campaign to ensure Bemidji State is well‑positioned for future growth and long‑term success,” Hofstad said. “The most rewarding part of this work is seeing how increased donor investment has made a significant impact on the opportunities available to our students — from scholarships to enhanced student success programming.
“Knowing that our efforts open doors for students motivates me to continue driving the advancement of a more effective, impactful, and mission‑driven organization.”
In her capacity as associate vice president, Hofstad will serve as the chief operational partner to Joseph to oversee the strategic execution of the foundation’s most critical initiatives. The new role is designed to transition her from day-to-day operations into high-level strategy, governance, and talent development — ensuring that the BSUAF continues its path toward organizational maturity and philanthropic excellence.
Hofstad’s new mandate includes leading project management for transformational gifts, overseeing foundation governance, and driving a comprehensive talent strategy to position the BSUAF as a best-in-class workplace. Her promotion reflects the foundation’s commitment to internal leadership development and its dedication to the long-term success of BSU students, staff, and faculty.
Hofstad holds a bachelor’s degree in sociology and a master’s degree in public and human services administration, both from Minnesota State University Moorhead.
