With the arrival of March Madness, the craziest time of year in sports has officially returned. And we want you to take part in the chaos.
Bemidji State alumni and friends are invited to fill out their Division I NCAA Tournament brackets and put their basketball wits to the test. Join other BSU alumni and friends in pursuit of the perfect bracket — or at least the best among all Beavers.
Participants can join the official Bemidji State groups by clicking the buttons below or by logging on to the ESPN Tournament Challenge page and searching “Bemidji State Alumni and Friends MBB” on the men’s group page and “Bemidji State Alumni and Friends WBB” on the women’s group page. Each user may add up to two brackets per group.
An ESPN account is required to fill out a bracket and join the group. Registering is free. Likewise, there is no cost to join the BSU groups, but a year’s worth of bragging rights are still up for grabs.
The deadline to fill out and submit a bracket is before the first Round of 64 game for each tournament. For the men’s bracket, the deadline is 11:15 a.m. on Thursday, March 20. For the women’s bracket, the deadline is 10:30 a.m. on Friday, March 21.
And if you need any pointers, we have a couple.
In the women’s bracket, you can’t go wrong rooting for our fellow Beavers from Oregon State, who received a No. 14 seed and are looking to make a Cinderella run as an underdog. Paige Bueckers, one of the most popular players in the country and a Minnesota native who even played against Bemidji High School, led her UConn squad to a No. 2 seed and are among the title favorites.
On the men’s side, the Bemidji State men’s basketball program has shared the court with eight of this year’s tournament teams. The Beavers have one win against that group — a 41-32 triumph over San Diego State, the defending NAIA national champions, in the 1942 national tournament. The Aztecs are a No. 11 seed this year. The most recent matchup was a 2018 exhibition against Creighton, a No. 9 seed. The others from that group, with this year’s seedings, are Drake (No. 11), Iowa State (No. 3), Missouri (No. 6), Montana (No. 14), Omaha (No. 15) and Wisconsin (No. 3).
