Marcia Larson joins Alumni & Foundation team as advancement officer

After a decorated career in public service with the Bemidji Parks and Recreation Department, Marcia Larson is taking on a new challenge as an advancement officer with the Bemidji State University Alumni & Foundation. Her first day was Nov. 10.

Larson’s role is focused on serving students and the university by securing financial support for Bemidji State. She manages a portfolio of qualified donors and identifies and cultivates new prospects to strengthen BSU’s community of support.

“This role excites me because it allows me to give back to a community I care deeply about,” Larson said. “Today’s college students need strong support systems and opportunities to explore, learn, and discover who they’re becoming, and I’m grateful for the chance to help make that possible.”

Before joining the Alumni & Foundation, Larson spent 17 years as the director of the Bemidji Parks and Recreation Department. She oversaw a 1,400% increase in annual participation, directed multi-million dollar operating and capital budgets, designed diverse programs, and successfully solicited grants, sponsorships, and giving. She was also recognized statewide for building innovative programs, stewarding relationships, and delivering measurable impact.

She has also served as an adjunct instructor, presenter, and board member for a number of organizations.

Larson has a bachelor’s degree in Parks and Recreation from Kent State University and a master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of North Dakota.
