23rd annual Galen Nagle Memorial Golf Tournament
Over 200 Bemidji State alumni, coaches and BSU hockey supporters attended the Galen Nagle Memorial Tournament at the Bemidji Town & Country Club on July 17, 2020 to honor the memory of a former BSU men’s hockey great and raise money for Beavers hockey.
The 23rd annual Galen Nagle Memorial Golf Tournament raised over $40,000 between registrations, sponsorships and a silent auction to support the team’s operating expenses and an endowment in honor of Galen Nagle ‘91, a standout goaltender for the Beaver hockey team from 1980-84 who helped lead the 1984 NCAA Division II National Championship team to a perfect 31-0 season.
Nagle lost his life to cancer in 1996, but each year the tournament brings alumni and Beaver hockey fans to Bemidji from across the country to remember the man who gave so much to BSU as a student-athlete.
“{Galen} epitomized Beavers hockey. He did the right things on the ice and off the ice,” Beavers men’s hockey head coach Tom Serratore said. “He was the greatest teammate you could have.”
Due to COVID-19, special precautions helped keep participants safe through social distancing. The tournament’s registration and silent auction were hosted online, golfers were assigned specific tee-times instead of the traditional shotgun start and no formal program was held after the tournament. Many wore face masks during the event.
The winning team included former Beavers men’s hockey players Tyler Scofield ’09, Chris McKelvie ’10, Matt Read ’11, Ryan Cramer ’11 and Jake Bauerfield.
The 24th annual Galen Nagle Memorial Golf Tournament is scheduled for July 16, 2021 at the Bemidji Town & Country Club.
