On October 5, for the first time in recent memory, Bemidji State’s annual homecoming parade made its way through the heart of campus.

Despite cool, wet weather, nearly 40 groups and university departments including current BSU athletes, student clubs and organizations and BSU’s 2019 distinguished alumni made their way down Birchmont Drive past Memorial Hall, the A.C. Clark Library and Bensen Hall before turning onto Birch Lane and finally ending on 17th Street, just south of the Gillett Wellness Center. The parade was moved from its traditional route in downtown Bemidji in honor of the BSU centennial.

The David Park House offered a dry place for spectators to watch the parade. Tours of the historic building and light refreshments were served as well.

Devinder Malholtra, chancellor of Minnesota State, braved the elements in an open convertible as the parade’s grand marshal.

Planning for next year’s homecoming is underway. Alumni and friends of the university are encouraged to save the date for BSU Homecoming 2020 on October 1-4, 2020.
