Bemidji State University celebrated 40 years of nursing on campus on Thursday, May 4, with a pinning ceremony for 2023 graduates and a luncheon for several new scholarship recipients.

Pinning ceremony

A near-capacity crowd filled the Beaux Arts Ballroom to celebrate the 2023 class of Bemidji State nursing graduates.

Guest speaker Stella Nelson, a 1980 BSU graduate, delivered an emotional address, while associate dean and chief nursing administrator Dr. Diana Kostrzewski and assistant professor Megan Heuer also spoke. A total of 86 students then received their pins from department chair Catrina Welch.

Scholarship luncheon

Bemidji State nursing students Lindsey Proctor and Gabriela Armstrong were among the new recipients of scholarships. Proctor received her scholarship from Sandy and George Thelen, while Armstrong received hers from Sanford Health.

Both the donors and recipients were honored during a luncheon at the David Park House.
