Join us for the inaugural "Battle of the Mascots" this winter as Bemidji State University's Bucky the Beaver faces off with Bemidji High School's Lumberjack Jack in a best-of-three showdown. They'll compete for the right to be crowned Bemidji's best mascot – and they need you to cheer on your favorite.

The series features three events during the halftime or intermission of local games. Bucky and Jack will square off during the following contests:

  • BHS boys basketball vs. Hermantown at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16, at the BHS Gymnasium
  • BSU women's basketball vs. Augustana at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 19, at the BSU Gymnasium
  • BSU men's hockey vs. Augustana at 6:07 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, at the Sanford Center

Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue Ox are set to officiate the contests. Fans will also have a chance to meet Bucky and Jack before the games for pictures, high-fives and hugs.

The Battle of the Mascots is meant to raise awareness for the Bucky Forever Fund, which is a new scholarship to be awarded to students who excel academically and serve as Bemidji State's mascot at athletic games, university events and more. Preference will be given to Bemidji High School graduates.

This scholarship fund is designed to foster school spirit, reward dedicated students and build a sense of community among alumni and current students. The BSU Alumni & Foundation is committed to making this fund a success to ensure the continued presence of our beloved mascot.
